"James and the Giant Peach" (Theater)

Children's Theatre of Knoxville presents "James and The Giant Peach”, a rollicking fantasy from Roald Dahl, the creator of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The amazing adventure of James Henry Trotter will fulfill the fantasy of anyone who has ever dreamed of escape. Roald Dahl’s story comes hilariously to life in this delightful dramatization that reveals the wickedness of some, the goodness of others, and the indecision encountered by many when they are faced with crises.Performances will take place at Children's Theatre of Knoxville, 800 Tyson St., Knoxville, TN 37917.Tickets are $11. Calling All Communities (Community Event)

U.S. Cellular is “Calling All Communities” once again to believe in something better for our schools. From now until Jan. 15, anyone 18 years or older can go to any U.S. Cellular store to get a code to vote online for their favorite school. There is no purchase necessary. The 10 schools that receive the most votes will receive $100,000 each to use any way they want. All public and private schools nationwide, kindergarten through high school, are eligible. Show your school spirit and vote!

World Hunger Year with Hard Rock Cafe

Hard Rock Cafe in Gatlinburg is actively supporting World Hunger Year throughout the month of November through the sale of $1 wristbands. Every $1 provides an impoverished child with 3 meals. The wristbands can be purchased in the cafe.

Experience the fitness and fun of All Sports Camp, where campers explore a variety of sports and fitness opportunities that will keep them active and building healthy habits to last a lifetime. Instruction is taught at all skill levels while promoting self-confidence, balance, coordination, and teamwork.All Sports Camp is located at Fort Sanders Health and Fitness Center (FSHFC). Members of FSHFC will pay $130 for the week. Non-members will pay $160 for the week. Discounts are available for families with more than one child enrolled. Camp is held Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (see dates below for registration). Holiday of Hope pageant (Fundraiser/Charity)

The Mountain Press is holding its first Holiday of Hope pageant benefiting Sevier County Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. There are 12 age divisions, including a special division for cancer survivors 25 years old and up. There are six extra categories (photogenic, prettiest eyes, etc.,) that can be entered for $5 each.Early registration is under way through Aug. 31 for $20. Normal registration from Sept. 1-Nov. 6 is $25. Late registration after Nov. 6 and day of event is $30.The Ambassador of Hope title will be awarded to the contestant who wins the sponsorship contest and will have their photo on the front of the pageant program.Forms can be picked up at The Mountain Press, Sevier County branches of Citizens National Bank, Tennessee Shindig, Thomas Photography and Colour Bar and Spa. God Saving Grace Missionary Baptist Church is having a turkey shoot to benifit our mission fund. We will be having it @ 8643 Emory Road Corryton , TN 37721. This will be held every Sat. In November from 9AM- 2PM. We have Turkeys, Hams and also many prizes for Scatter Board. So come out and play and take yourself home a Turkey or Ham for the hoildays!!!!!!

ETTAC takes used computers (Free Community Service)
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Location: East Tennessee Technology Access Center

If you bought a new computer system during Tennessee’s tax free holiday and want to know where to drop off your old computer, the East Tennessee Technology Access Center will accept Pentium IV computers or better. All computers must be in good working condition. ETTAC is a regional nonprofit agency that helps people with disabilities. The staff adapts computers with specialized software and hardware that are then loaned to clients to enable them to learn, work and to become more productive. All donations are tax deductible. Computers can be dropped off at their Knoxville office located at 4918 North Broadway. You may also call (865) 219-0130 to possibly arrange to have it picked up, but we cannot guarantee in all cases that we can do this.

Elizabeth Rose brings 2009 Tellabration! to Blount County Public Library (storytelling)

In all of her vocations, Elizabeth Rose has utilized the art of storytelling. While teaching elementary and middle school for 19 years and currently as principal at Cherokee Middle School in Roane County, Elizabeth Rose is also a mom. She uses storytelling in the classroom and at home to teach children to appreciate storytelling and to teach children to create stories of their own.This award-winning storyteller will share stories and tips for parents and educators at the Blount County Public Library on Thursday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m.
