4-star on 247 Composite/Rivals/ESPN

Josh Ward’s Analysis: Tennessee’s offense needs more explosive plays. Merrill might offer the most help in that area at receiver in this class. Merrill will add good depth at receiver for Tennessee.

Eric Cain’s Analysis: Speed kills – but Walker Merrill has emphatically told me that’s not all he is. Along with his speed (4.4), the in-state product is a skilled route runner who can stretch the field vertically and horizontally. He’s a guy who can line up everywhere and has held his own in camps and 7-on-7s. Now healthy after battling injuries as a senior, Merrill will have an opportunity to get in the rotation right away with a good spring and fall camp.
