BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee’s Christian Moore is the latest in a ever-growing list of Vols to earn Southeastern Conference weekly honors, as he was tabbed the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Moore is the fourth UT player to earn conference freshman of the week honors this season, joining OF/C Jared Dickey (twice), RHP Chase Burns and RHP Drew Beam.
Moore had a solid week that finished with a heroic performance on Sunday series finale in Gainesville. The freshman utility man/designated hitter recorded the two biggest hits of his young career in Tennessee’s thrilling comeback victory at Florida, tying the game with two outs in the top of the ninth with a two-run single before hitting the eventual game-winning two-run homer in extra innings to propel the Vols to their first series sweep over the Gators on the road since 2001.
The Brooklyn, New York, native, batted .500 and reached base in all four of Tennessee’s wins last week. Moore had a hit in three of the Vols’ four games while finishing with three walks and six RBIs. His four RBIs on Sunday were his most in an SEC game this season while his two hits tied a career high for a conference game.
The Big Orange start a five-game homestand on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. against Xavier. The game can be streamed live on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app.
