Claxton, TN (WOKI) A body has been recovered and the victim identified in a drowning Wednesday night in Anderson County.
Officials with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office say multiple agencies responded to the report of a drowning at New Henderson Park in the Claxton community around 8:30 p.m.
Divers with Knox County Rescue were able to find and recover the body of 21- year-old Robert J. Blanchard, IV of Coconut Ln. in Powell.
ACSO reports witnesses saw Blanchard enter the water to swim but that he soon began yelling for help. They told deputies they attempted to reach Blanchard with a flotation device but were unsuccessful.
The Claxton Volunteer Fire Department, Anderson Co. Rescue Squad, and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team assisted with the search.
