Knoxville Police have arrested a bank robbery suspect.
Officers responded to the City Employees Credit Union on Western Avenue Friday afternoon after 51 year-old Robert Whipple reportedly passed the teller a note demanding money.
Officers spotted Whipple in a U-Haul cargo van during their investigation Friday night. He eluded officers in the downtown area but police pursued the van until it became disabled on Millertown Pike at Washington Pike.
Whipple is charged with robbery and felony evading arrest among other charges. This comes only a year after Whipple was sentenced to prison for a string of bank robberies he committed in March 2020. He was sentenced to 70 months in prison in February 2023.
