Knoxville Fire Department says Fire at City Owned Bridge was Intentionally Set, Suspect Charged

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 2 PM, the Knoxville Fire Department responded to a fire in the 2700 block of North Broadway. Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire burning beneath a pedestrian bridge owned by the City of Knoxville. The fire involved a significant amount of clothing and debris, which damaged the bridge.

Two witnesses provided descriptions of a suspect, allowing Knoxville Fire Investigators to locate and arrest him shortly thereafter. The suspect, 60-year-old Timothy Wayne Penten, was charged with one count of arson of personal property. He is currently being held at the Knox County Detention Facility.
