Knoxville, TN (WOKI) The Knox County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team members who shot and killed 18-year-old Daevon Montez Saint-Germain last month will not face criminal charges.
Officials with DA Charme Allen’s Office announcing Thursday that its review found the officers involved did not break the law and acted in self-defense.
Saint-Germain was shot in connection to officers conducting a search warrant, based on alleged drug activity, on the morning of January 3 at a home in the 7800 block of Sevierville Pike in south Knox County.
According to the search warrant, KCSO suspected Saint-Germain was associated with the Murdaville Mafia street gang, a subsect of the 98 Main Street Mafia Crips, who work out of the Montgomery Village apartment complex.
The detective who filed the warrant — David West — said he had been investigating Saint-Germain’s Instagram account. On that account, West said, Saint-Germain made several posts advertising that he was selling drugs, even at school.
Many of the posts contained pictures of marijuana, THC carts and cash, West said, prompting the search warrant.
According to the DA’s findings, Saint-Germain walked out of his room with an assault rifle, which prompted the shooting.
