Gatlinburg, TN (WOKI) Hiking to LeConte Lodge via Alum Cave Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will look a little different as Park Service crews continue to clean up some storm damage.
According to LeConte Lodge representatives via a social media post, the higher peaks in the Smokies saw up to 100 mph wind gusts during last week’s storms, which toppled trees on the popular trail.
LeConte Lodge representatives say the five-mile trail is now the site of fallen trees and chunks of disturbed surface soil.
“Navigating several of these new obstacles will require patience, careful foot placement, crawling, and tightrope walking until NPS crews are able to effectively assess and rehabilitate the trail,” the lodge’s post reads. “Use caution, and be aware that many of Mt. LeConte’s approach trails have downed trees as well.”
