Police Identify Man Who Died in Fort Sanders Crash

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) UPDATE 3/19: Knoxville police have identified the victim in Tuesday morning’s fatal single-vehicle crash in the Fort Sanders area.

Police say the crash happened at Highland Ave and 19th Street when a car crashed into a street sign. The driver, 42-year-old Michael Adams, was found unresponsive and taken to the hospital.

The preliminary investigation shows Adams likely suffered a medical event that caused the crash. He later died at the hospital.

Knoxville Police Department crash reconstruction personnel are investigating the crash.

ORIGINAL STORY: Knoxville Police Department crash reconstruction personnel are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash that happened Tuesday morning in the Fort Sanders area. 

At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, officers responded to a Honda Civic that had crashed at Highland Ave and 19th Street. 

Officers discovered the vehicle had crashed into a street sign. The male driver was found unresponsive and transported to an area hospital.

The preliminary investigation shows the driver likely suffered a medical event that caused the crash. The driver later died at the hospital. 

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
