KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee sophomore point guard Evina Westbrook has been named to the SEC Women’s Basketball Community Service Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
This marks the 21st year for the SEC Community Service Team for women’s basketball. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
A member of the UT Athletics Department’s VOLeaders program, Westbrook is one of UT’s most active volunteers in the community and someone who has a heart for those dealing with hardships. She has visited patients on separate occasions at the UT Cancer Institute as well as East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and joined the Lady Vol basketball team in hosting kids from East Tennessee Children’s Hospital at a Christmas party in UT’s Pratt Pavilion practice facility.
Westbrook also participated in Voloween, welcoming area children to campus for UT’s annual interactive Halloween party, and Hoops For Hope, a local basketball event for children with Down Syndrome. She also assisted the Volunteer Ministry Center and Knox Area Rescue Ministries as UT’s SAAC served a holiday meal to those in need and played fun games with their guests. Additionally, she took part in the Childhood Obesity Conference and Rocky Top Tip-off.
A graduate of South Salem High School in Salem, Oregon, Westbrook has started 26 games for the Lady Vols this season, averaging 15.6 points, 5.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals. She has dished out five or more assists in 17 games this season and holds the fifth-best scoring average and No. 3 assist average among any sophomore who has ever played in the UT program.
