Knox County Engineering to Look at Traffic Light Sequence in North Knoxville after Complaints of Traffic Back-Ups and TDOT Emory Road Project Planned to Start this Year

Many drivers in Powell and Halls say red light timing is an issue especially with the heavy flow of traffic in that area.

An Emory Road resident says the timing is off there and on Maynardville Pike and Broadway calling it bad light synchronization.

Jim Snowden with Knox County Engineering and Public Works tells our news partner WVLT that anything electronic, due to a power outage or a lightning strike, can get off-sequence and engineers will look at it.

He says a lot of traffic is going from Halls to Powell every morning to get on I-75 so crews will be in the area to make sure that there is not any delay there that they can prevent.

Construction of a diversion diamond interchange for Emory Road and I-75 is planned to start this year.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation will begin roadwork along Emory Road where they will add a diversion diamond interchange to the I-75 and Emory Road which will help with traffic flow in the heavily congested area.

Also included in the TDOT road work budget is the addition of fiber optic cable to the traffic lights on Emory Road, which will help them seamlessly flow with fewer issues.
