Bill Could Provide TN schools with Metal Detectors

Nashville, Tn (WOKI) Tennessee lawmakers have filed a bill that would provide funds for schools to purchase portable walk-through metal detectors.

If passed, The Protecting Tennessee Schools and Events Act would require the state to establish a pilot program to award grants to school districts in counties identified as distressed or at-risk in fiscal year 2025.

The grants would allow the school districts to purchase three of the detectors at a total cost not exceeding $48,000. As part of the bill, in-person observations and data collecting would be completed by the vendor in order to measure how the detectors are implemented and their effectiveness.

The bill was introduced by Rep. Rush Bricken (R-Tullahoma) and Sen. Janice Bowling (R-Tullahoma).
