SB Preview: Stepping Out of Conference Play, #7 Lady Vols Host Huskies

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The seventh-ranked Lady Vols step out of conference play this weekend as they play host to UConn at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium March 14-16. Due to expected inclement weather on Saturday, the teams will play a doubleheader on Friday with game times set for 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET. First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for noon.
 
Tickets for Saturday’s game will be valid for the 7:30 p.m. game on Friday.

Parking shuttles will be available free of charge all weekend at the Agricultural Campus starting 1.5 hours before first pitch. When Stephenson Drive lots fill up, fans will be redirected to the Ag Campus parking and shuttles on River Drive.

All three games will stream live on SEC Network+ and the WatchESPN app. Charley Collier (play-by-play) will be on the call all weekend and will be joined in the broadcast booth by Michelle LeCourse (analyst) on Friday and Faith Cain (analyst) for Sunday’s contest.

Tennessee is ranked in all four major polls heading into the weekend: No. 7 (NFCA), No. 7 (USASB), No. 5 (D1S) and No. 9 (SA).
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Vols defeated No. 16 Duke on Tuesday night, 1-0. Karlyn Pickens and Taylor Pannell starred as Pickens tossed a two-hit complete game with 10 Ks, while Pannell provided all the run support with a solo home run in the first inning.
 
SEC OPENING WEEKEND
Tennessee opened SEC play last weekend with a 2-1 series victory over Georgia down in Athens. The Lady Vols won game one 6-1 and game three 5-2, dropping game two 4-3.
 
HOME COOKING
The Friendly Confines of Sherri Parker Lee have been good to the Lady Vols. Since 2021, Tennessee is 106-22 at home and has outscored opponents 838- 312. In league play, UT has won 13 out of 16 home series during that span – including eight straight over the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
 
FIRST TIME AGAINST UCONN
Tennessee and Connecticut have a long and storied history on the hardwood but will be meeting for the first time on the diamond this weekend. Under head coach Laura Valentino, the Huskies won the 2022 and 2023 Big East regular season championships. UConn has reached the Women’s College World Series one time in program history in 1993.
